one life. one coat.
i started designing syli™ high-tech women’s coat in my first year of design school. i came from a year-round outdoor sport background and was already used to high-quality products, but my experience with them had revealed me their weaknesses in terms of design, materials, and structures. my previous studies in apparel and product experience gave me enough understanding of structures to be able to focus more on the quality of the design. i wanted the coat to be not only functional but also culture and climate adaptable, applicable when moving from to another
during my thesis, i discovered an interesting technical material of japanese origin, that was of higher quality than anything i had previously encountered. before this, i had sworn to separate outer and inner layers for added functionality, but the fineness of this 3-layer material made me change my mind, and with it the structure of the design altogether
still a work in progress, after my studies i worked in the international apparel industry for a while, but the poor quality gave me pain. when my contract ended, i came back to my unfinished projects, and finally started prototyping this design in physical form
testing the coat was fun not only because the design phase had been so long, but also because it was really just that good. because of its lightness, i felt like walking on air when wearing it, it worked perfectly in almost any weather conditions from warm to wet, and even frost. and when moving from cold to indoors to have a seat – even then i didn’t want to take it off – it’s really that comfortable! non-breathing, heavy and stuffy mid-season winter coats and puffers are only a miserable memory to me now. syli™ high-tech women’s coat is just a pure joy
syli™ combines not only my 7 year studies in apparel and design, but also 5 years of quiet maturation, my lifelong experience with comfort and functionality in demanding weather conditions, and aesthetic considerations in cross cultural environments. i consider syli™ hi-tech women’s coat a masterpiece, and hope it stands the test of time and use with grace
